Explanation of API's

What is an API?
API means "Application Programming Interface". It's a way of letting other applications access your data.
Here's the Wikipedia definition of API.

Why does KeywordTopia use API's?
Because that's how we get access to the Wordtracker and KeywordDiscovery data. Both of those companies have API's that let us access their data.

What is an API Query?
A query is a call or a lookup. When you want to get data about a keyword, we do a "query" to the Wordtracker and the KeywordDiscovery API. It's how we get the data back from their service.

Why do I have to pay for API queries?
Because those are the terms on which we get access to the Wordtracker and the KeywordDiscovery API's.
We have to buy large chuncks of API calls to their API's (10,000 queries per month).
  • Wordtracker costs average out to $0.08 per query for us.
  • KeywordDiscovery costs average out to $0.05 per query for us.
We charge you an extra $0.01 per query above our cost ($0.09 and $0.06 per query) to make up for the unused API calls that we had to pay for and to make up for the transaction processing costs for those services.
